2017 Year in Review

Trail Building

  • We had a great turn out and BBQ for National Trails Day
  • We adopted the Ponderosa Loop in Oak Flats and had two great days re-routing the existing trail and building new trail in preparation for the Albuquerque Mountain Bike Festival
  • We created a totally new trail in one day for the Forrest Service in the Manzanita mountains and had an awesome BBQ to celebrate
  • AMBA members played a large part in the completion of the Three Bottles trail in the Manzanita mountains

Rides

  • Great social rides all year long at all ability levels with as many as 30 people participating in individual rides
  • Numerous out of town rides with camp-outs and/or BBQs including White Mesa, Galisteo Trail System, Winsor Creek Trail, Phil's World, Moab, Enchanted Forrest and Las Cruces
  • Numerous Women's only rides
  • We had a great Take a Kid Mountain Biking day in conjunction with NMXSports

Advocacy

  • We currently represent all Albuquerque mountain bikers on the Sandia Collaborative team that advises the Forrest Service
  • We are taking an active role in representing mountain bikers in the Petroglyph National Monument/Abq. Open Space planning process

Grants

  • We applied for and won an REI grant for $5000, which the Forrest Service used to to purchase a new kiosk for the Placitas Area Trails

Community Outreach

  • We support NMXSports who used the helmets we donated last year to take 75 disadvantaged kids mountain biking in their new 2017 mountain biking program
  • Became the local site administrator for the Trail Forks application for the Albuquerque riding area
